Located at the base of Burleigh Head National Park, on Kombumerri Country in the Yugambeh Language Speaking Region, Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre is the Gold Coast’s only dedicated Aboriginal cultural centre and is proudly owned and operated by the local Aboriginal community through Kalwun Development Corporation.

Every experience at Jellurgal helps keep local traditions strong while supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community initiatives across the Gold Coast.

Led by a team of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander guides, educators and storytellers, Jellurgal provides opportunities to learn through lived experience, oral history and traditions that have been carried across generations.

Jellurgal, the Dreaming Mountain, is a place of great significance for the Kombumerri People and the wider Yugambeh Language Speaking Region, holding stories of Dreaming, Creation and identity tied to the local people.

The stories within this land have existed for thousands of years, carrying knowledge, kinship and responsibility across generations. As custodians of these stories, we are proud to share them in a way that honours both culture and Country.

Jellurgal Cultural Information Principles

Jellurgal Cultural Information Principles ensure cultural knowledge is gathered, shared, and stored through respectful co-design, ongoing consultation, cultural safety, consent, accountability and genuine relationships with community knowledge holders. Jellurgal preserves and protects cultural traditions and reflects the local community's heritage by ensuring experiences are authentic and represent the rich culture of the Yugambeh Language Group and Kombumerri people. Jellurgal ensures authenticity by consulting with local Traditional Custodians who provide cultural guidance from the outset. These Custodians are respected leaders and knowledge holders, helping Jellurgal present true accounts of local culture. The organisation is supported by Kalwun and the broader Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and also engages with government, tourism, and community stakeholders to uphold mutual respect and shared values.
